WASHINGTON, D.C. (WCAX) – A freshwater fish is front and center of a resolution focusing on lake sturgeon stability.
Vermont senator Peter Welch introduced a resolution to increase conservation for lake sturgeon, an important species in Vermont’s freshwater ecosystem.
According to Welch, the lake sturgeon is the biggest and longest-living fish in Vermont’s ecosystem – sometimes living past 120 years old. ut its habitat and population have been negatively impacted over the years.
His resolution would recognize the importance of the fish and encourage Congress to support conservation in Lake Champlain and beyond.
