Preservation grants to help give old Vermont barns new life

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – The awardees have been announced for the 2024 Barn Preservation Grants which will help preserve old barns across Vermont.

The Vermont Division for Historic Preservation and the Vermont Advisory Council on Historic Preservation are awarding more than $350,000 to 20 projects across the state for restoration and rehabilitation projects.

State officials say the project involves funding to fix up some of the state’s most iconic farms and barns. Grantees include the East Monitor Barn in Richmond and the Retreat Barn in Brattleboro. Click here for the full list of projects that won grants.

The state-funded Barn Preservation Grant Program was started in 1992 and aimed at promoting and preserving Vermont’s agricultural and architectural heritage.
