SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A man is being held without bail after police say he tried to choke another man and threatened him with a knife.
South Burlington Police responded to the Travelodge on Shelburne Road on Sunday around 3:15 p.m. for reports that a person was assaulted with a knife.
The victim told police he got into a dispute with a resident of the motel, Mabior Jok. The victim said he went to Jok’s room to get an item that he had stolen. The victim said when he went to the room, Jok became angry, pulled him into the room, threw him on the bed and began to choke him.
Police say Jok then pulled out a knife and held it toward the victim’s neck and threatened to kill him before the incident was interrupted by another resident of the hotel. They say Jok then ran away.
Officers found Jok at a nearby liquor store and he was taken into custody without incident. Police also recovered a knife from Jok’s room. He is being held without bail and is expected in court on Monday.
Police say Jok has an extensive criminal history in Vermont and is currently on probation. He has been charged with 52 misdemeanors and nine felonies in the state of Vermont since 2007.
