Area Jewish organizations prepare to celebrate Passover

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Passover begins Monday at sundown and many will gather for the first night of the holiday.

Passover is a celebration of freedom, and it’s one of the most celebrated holidays on the Hebrew calendar.

Families get together to share a meal and celebrate Jewish liberation from slavery in Egypt.

Chabad of Burlington was setting their tables earlier Monday for the Seder meal that begins at sunset.

Local Jewish leaders say while there is a focus on the rise in antisemitism, Monday is a night to celebrate.

“Tonight we are not going to focus on who hates us but rather about what we love. And tonight is going to be a celebration of freedom of faith and of community,” said Rabbi Eliyahu Junik of Chabad of Burlington.

Other temples we talked to said they are focusing this Passover on the Israeli hostages still being held by Hamas.

Passover lasts for eight days.
