ELIZABETHTOWN, N.Y. (WCAX) – A series of community conversations are underway this week in Essex County, New York, focused on preventing youth addiction.
County officials say the first of four events kicked off on Tuesday night and that the goal is to educate the community on the link between traumatic childhood events and later mental health and addiction problems. The hope is for schools and parents to foster a response system to support kids during times of hardship.
“We need the community at the table partnering with the provider system and school system to create more protective factors that help build resiliency,” said Essex County Mental Health’s Terri Morse.
