Teen wanted in New York murder arrested in Vermont

ENOSBURGH, Vt. (WCAX) – A teen wanted for a 2023 murder in New York was arrested in Vermont on Friday. Christian Concepcion, 16, of the Bronx, was taken into custody in Enosburgh.

The NYPD says Concepcion was involved in a murder in New York City last year. And police in Vermont believe he may also be connected to investigations here in the Green Mountains.

Concepcion faced a judge in Franklin County, Vermont, on Monday.

“Mr. Concepcion had an outstanding warrant for second-degree murder in New York and he was located in Enosburgh, Vermont,” Franklin County State’s Attorney Bram Kranichfeld said.

Concepcion is being charged as an adult with second-degree murder in a robbery at a smoke shop in Queens in March of 2023. A 20-year-old employee, Daryus Clark, was killed in the robbery. Three people could be seen running out of the store on surveillance video. Police believe one of them was Concepcion.

A nearby witness who didn’t want to be identified told our sister station in New York what he heard back in March of 2023.

“All I heard was like six gunshots. And then, next thing you know, I just see three people running and the person in the smoke shop is dead,” the witness said.

From the busy streets of New York to a very rural dirt road in Franklin County– court paperwork says multiple federal, state and local federal officers responded to a home on Howard Road in Enosburgh Friday and took Concepcion into custody after he barricaded himself in the basement.

The teen appeared in Vermont criminal court on Monday.

“Mr. Concepcion was charged as an adult in New York. That was a decision made in New York,” Kranichfeld said.

Federal court records indicate Concepcion has ties to the Burlington and the Enosburgh area, and has family here, as well.

He is not currently facing any charges in Vermont.

“We are working with the New York authorities to to make sure Mr. Concepcion is brought to justice in New York,” Kranichfeld said.

Concepcion will continue to be held in Vermont until he’s extradited back to New York to face a murder charge.

People in rural Enosburgh were shocked that someone accused of murder was found hiding in their small town.

“It’s definitely a quiet area around here,” said Tori Hull of Enosburgh. “It’s kind of a big thing around here.”

Police confirmed to WCAX News that Concepcion may be connected to two Vermont homicide investigations. We don’t know which cases but Vermont News First reported they are investigations out of Burlington from last year.
