BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – You might smell a familiar funk wafting through the air as the winter manure-spreading ban has been lifted for the spring.
But with soggy weather to come, it’s not all smooth sailing.
The manure ban was lifted on April 1, but with winter storm predictions for later this week, the Vermont Agency of Agriculture reminds farmers to follow required agricultural practices.
That includes not spreading on snow-covered, saturated, or likely to runoff fields.
Rules also prohibit spreading before a large rain or snowmelt event.
