Fuel leak closes Fair Haven Union Middle and High School

FAIR HAVEN, Vt. (WCAX) – The Fair Haven Union Middle and High School was closed on Monday due to a fuel leak.

The superintendent says there was a break in the fuel oil line and upward of 500 gallons of fuel oil leaked into the utility tunnels under the school and its boiler room and into the sewer system.

The state hazmat team was not needed but the school has contracted with a hazardous waste company.

The superintendent said school will be closed on Tuesday as well because they’re concerned about air quality.
