Rice Memorial High School celebrates mental health day

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – On Monday students took a break from regular classes to focus on mental health.

It’s college acceptance season and many students are facing disappointment as colleges have record high numbers of applicants.

In light of the pressure, Rice Memorial High School dedicated a day to students who struggle with stress and anxiety.

With workshops throughout the day, the goal of Mental Health Awareness Day is to help students come up with strategies and tools to help them cope and build resilience.

“This was a day that came about because of students. It was student-driven, student-led, and student-planned. Every workshop was chosen by a student,” said Wellness Counselour Drew Farrell.

Rice is working to improve its staff to help strengthen students’ college careers.
