MIDDLEBURY, Vt. (WCAX) – One man is in the hospital after a stabbing on College St. in Middlebury Wednesday evening.
Just after 7:45 p.m., the Middlebury Police Department received a call that a woman had been attacked on College St.
When they arrived they found Jerry Hoffman, 31, of Middlebury outside his College St. home. He had two knives and didn’t respond when police told him to put them down. He ran away and the police followed him. Hoffman ran into Otter Creek where he stopped and eventually dropped the knives.
He was evaluated at the hospital and released to the Middlebury Police.
After his arrest police found out that there was a stabbing and the victims had left before police arrived on the scene. Police say a man and woman were walking on College St. when Hoffman stabbed the man multiple times. The man and woman then ran to a home nearby and called the police. The man’s condition is currently unknown but the woman is uninjured.
Hoffman has been charged with Attempted Murder and is being held without bail.
Police say this incident appears to be random.
