BRATTLEBORO, Vt. (WCAX) – Representative Becca Balint held a community forum tonight about housing in Vermont, specifically discussing Windham County.
This comes after Rep. Balint introduced her Community Housing Act, which would invest $500 billion in federal programs that fund the construction of affordable housing.
It focuses on building more housing, provisions to keep people housed, and increasing housing availability for rural renters.
Balint says she wanted to hear specifically from those in Windham County about what they’re hearing and experiencing in the housing market and ask them what she could do at the federal level to address the crisis.
“I hear about the shortage of housing from Vermonters in every corner of the state, and it’s very important for me and my team to find solutions… There isn’t just one solution, it’s going to take moving many levers at once,” said Rep. Balint.
She says she hopes at least parts of this bill could get passed this session.
