Lebanon school placed on lockdown following police standoff

LEBANON, N.H. (WCAX) – Lebanon High School was locked down Friday afternoon following a police standoff nearby.

Parents were notified around 2:30 p.m. that the school was on lockdown after police responded to an incident involving a truck intercepted by officers near the school.

Police say they got a call earlier in the day about a potentially armed man who was making threats to harm himself. They say they found the man driving towards the school complex where his child is an elementary school student. After being stopped by officers, they say the man refused to get out of the truck. After about two hours of negotiation, he surrendered. Police say they found four loaded guns in the truck.

“There was no shots fired. There were no injuries to anybody on the school campus. There was no injuries to the man involved as well as my officers. So, in the situation like this, that is the ideal ending, that is our goal, that is what we train for,” said Lebanon Police Chief Phil Roberts.

Police say the man, whose name has not been released, did not make any threats to anyone other than himself. He was transported to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center for a mental evaluation.
