BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – After a brief hiatus during the winter, Bird e-bikes are migrating back into Chittenden County.
The regional bike share program is set to relaunch Monday for its second season. The program was hailed as a success by organizers last year, bringing more than 5,000 riders on 30,000 rides, according to the Chittenden Area Transportation Management Association.
Unlike other bike share programs that use centrally located docking stations, about 200 of the Bird bikes were sprinkled throughout Burlington, leading some to complain that they were dumped on private property or blocked sidewalks. CATMA officials say they’ve been working with community members and students to educate them on proper use.
The relaunch also comes as Bird has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
