BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Millions of federal dollars are coming to bolster border crossings in our region.
The money is part of President Biden’s Investing in America agenda, which includes a plan to invest over $1 billion to modernize dozens of federal Land Ports of Entry, or LPOE’s, using clean manufacturing and sustainable technologies.
In Vermont, LPOE’s in Alburg Springs, Beebe Plain, Highgate Springs (or Swanton), and Norton will receive funding that will make the facilities all-electric and sustainable. Swanton will receive the most funding at $49 million.
In New York, the LPOE at Rouses Point will receive $13 million to transition to an all electric facility using a design approach that will minimize disturbance to local wetlands.
