RUTLAND, Vt. (WCAX) – The Vermont woman found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the death of an infant in her care was sentenced on Tuesday.
Stacey Vaillancourt was sentenced to 3-10 years in prison.
Vaillancourt is the former Rutland child care provider who was convicted of giving a deadly dose of a sedative to a baby in her care back in 2019.
Toxicology reports show Harper Rose Briar had high levels of diphenhydramine, a drug commonly found in cold medicines, in her system.
The defense argued there was no evidence of the drug at the child care center and no proof that Vaillancourt dosed the baby. But jurors found Vaillancourt guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the baby’s death in December 2023.
