FAIRLEE, Vt. (WCAX) – Southbound traffic on Interstate 91 in the Upper Valley is beginning to return to normal after a section of the highway was closed a couple of weeks ago.
The highway was closed between Exit 16 in Bradford and Exit 15 in Fairlee to mitigate rock falls in the area. Traffic was detoured to Route 5. And while it has been a slight inconvenience for drivers, businesses in Fairlee say it has helped their bottom line.
“It’s been good for us. People who didn’t typically come in, they stopped by, had a little extra time. We tried to capitalize on that. Put it in Instagram, you know, stop on by for beer and wine,” said Meagan Zubkoff with Chapman’s General Store.
One lane of I-91 south reopened Tuesday morning. Crews say it could be several weeks before all the debris is removed and both lanes are back.
