Berlin residents approve non-binding measure for post office, zip code

BERLIN, Vt. (WCAX) – Residents in the town of Berlin Tuesday approved a non-binding resolution calling for their own zip code and post office.

Nearby Montpelier’s post office has remained closed following flooding in July that destroyed the Federal Building and area residents have been forced to either drive to Barre or other surrounding towns to send packages or other services.

In an article approved from the floor on Tuesday, a majority of voters approved a measure that calls on the USPS “to establish a post office and zip code within the town to service its residents and businesses.”

There has been no official response from the USPS, which has remained mum about its plans for the state capital facility.
