Stefanik says GOP will retain majority with new NY redistricting map

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (WCAX) – New York Gov. Kathy Hochul on Wednesday signed a new Democrat-drawn congressional map.

The new map gives Democrats a modest boost in a few battleground districts, helping their candidates in a heavily contested election year when House races in the state could determine control of Congress.

For Rep. Elise Stefanik’s district, there aren’t a lot of changes in the tri-county area. However, Stefanik, if re-elected, will lose some areas downstate, but also pick up part of Saratoga County. In a statement, Stefanik railed against state Democratic lawmakers regarding the process, but said her party will maintain control. ”This November, we plan to protect all our GOP-held districts and expand our House majority right here in New York, and this map allows just that,” she said.

North County Assemblyman Billy Jones, D-Chateaugay Lake, says he hopes lawmakers are done with the process. “Even though it was a longer process than we wanted, but I think it was a process that everybody can live with and everybody can be satisfied with and hopefully, we are done with these maps for this cycle,” he said.
