Ceremony marks milestone in multimillion-dollar Dartmouth College renovation project

HANOVER, N.H. (WCAX) – A “topping off” ceremony was held Wednesday at Dartmouth College for a significant milestone in a multimillion-dollar renovation project.

The final steel beam was hoisted into place at the new Hopkins Center for the Arts building, which is undergoing a major renovation and expansion.

It’s an $88 million project in all, which includes a 15,000-square-foot addition to the structure.

The new building will feature state-of-the-art technology, as well as additional performance and rehearsal spaces.

When complete, college officials say it will be a resource for the entire region.

“We really expect this to be not an asset just for Dartmouth, not an asset just for Hanover, but for all of northern New England. Because our closest cities don’t even have the kinds of facilities that the HOP in conjunction with the Hood would rival as a concentration of artistic and cultural opportunities,” said Mary Lou Aleskie of the Hopkins Center for the Arts.

Before the steel beam was set in place, community members connected to the HOP had the opportunity to sign it.

Construction will likely continue until the fall of 2025.
