3 NH counties get federal disaster declaration for December floods

CONCORD, N.H. (WCAX) – Three New Hampshire counties have received federal major disaster declarations in connection with a severe storm and flooding in December.

Carroll, Coos, and Grafton counties sustained over $2.6 million in damage, according to the governor’s office. The declaration announced Tuesday allows the communities to move forward with seeking federal funding assistance. The storm closed several major roads the week before Christmas including a section of Route 302 in Crawford Notch.

The president’s declaration also makes federal support available through the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program on a cost-sharing basis. FEMA can fund up to 75% of the eligible costs of approved projects.
