PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (WCAX) – Another Democrat has entered the mayoral race in Plattsburgh.
Peru native Dan Lennon announced his bid for the mayor’s seat over the weekend. Lennon says he’s giving up his post as assistant district attorney to run for mayor because he believes the Lake City is at a crossroads. His platform includes focusing on public safety, housing needs and recreation.
Lennon joins Wendell Hughes in a race for the Democratic nomination.
Lennon says he hopes the city’s Democratic Party does not endorse any specific candidate.
“I strongly believe that choice is for the voters to make, not for the party. This is a problem the Democratic Party has run into in the state, national and now local level,” Lennon said.
City Democrats will gather Monday night to discuss whether they will endorse candidates for the mayoral and ward 6 Council races.
Current Mayor Chris Rosenquest decided not to seek reelection.
