NH police officer honored with Distinguished Service Award

LEBANON, N.H. (WCAX) – A Lebanon police officer is being honored for keeping a cool head during a life-and-death situation.

Sgt. Adam Leland was honored by the department Wednesday with a Distinguished Service Award for actions he took to use nondeadly force.

Last November, Leland stopped a man and a woman in a stolen vehicle being used for other thefts. While detaining the two and waiting for backup, the man attempted to get back to the car to get a knife. Leland quickly deployed a Taser instead of using deadly force on the suspect.

Lebanon Police Chief Phil Roberts called Leland a great example of the department’s dedication and commitment.
