Vt. House speaker weighs in on Bennington lawmaker’s DUI

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont House Speaker Jill Krowinski Thursday addressed the case of a House member who was charged with drunk driving this week.

Police arrested Rep. Jim Carroll, D-Bennington, Wednesday morning on State Street outside the Capitol for driving under the influence.

Krowinski, a fellow Democrat, said in a statement there are zero excuses for driving under the influence. “As elected officials, we must hold ourselves to the highest standards of conduct as we have the privilege and honor of representing our communities in the Legislature,” she said.

She says Carroll is seeking treatment and added that there are resources available for Vermonters struggling with substance use.
