NY health care workers’ union to hold rallies to reverse budget cuts

ALBANY N.Y. (WCAX) – Thousands of unionized health care workers across New York are expected to rally outside of their jobs Thursday in opposition to proposed budget cuts.

United Healthcare Workers East is calling on Governor Kathy Hochul to reverse $1 billion in proposed budget cuts and to properly fund Medicaid reimbursements to hospitals and nursing homes.

The union says over 7 million New Yorkers rely on Medicaid for their health insurance, including half of the state’s children and people with disabilities. However, New York’s Medicaid program reimburses doctors and providers 30% less than the actual cost of their care.
