LAKE PLACID, N.Y. (WCAX) – It’s been 44 years since the Miracle on Ice.
On Feb. 22, 1980, a group of young, rag-tag American amateurs defeated the four-time defending gold medalists and heavily favored Soviet Union during the Winter Olympics in Lake Placid.
Team USA won that game 4-3, then went on to beat Finland and win the gold medal.
The arena in the North Country has since built a museum dedicated to the 1980 games and the U.S. team’s legendary victory.
