What’s next after voters reject new school in the North Country?

WESTPORT, N.Y. (WCAX) – Voters in the Boquet Valley Central School District said no to a 25% tax increase to build a new K-12 school. Now, officials say they will discuss other options to make improvements.

The vote was 1,008-372 against the $65 million project.

Proponents say the project is needed because of failing infrastructure at the school district’s Westport and Elizabethtown buildings.

District Superintendent Josh Meyer says they will now discuss what alternative options are available to make needed improvements.

“We have a very active facilities committee. We have some members in the community that seem to have some other ideas on what the future of facilities in the district could look like, so it is just further community conversations on what our next steps are,” Meyer said.

He says it could still cost several million dollars if the district decides to repair existing issues at both schools.
