Middlebury dealing with widespread water main issues

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. (WCAX) – Town leaders in Middlebury have requested a local emergency declaration as the town responds to widespread water main issues.

Officials found a fire hydrant frozen in an open position resulting in a powerful water surge that has severely damaged the town’s nearly 100-year-old pipe system.

Precautionary boil water notices are in effect and the police department is providing free water.

Middlebury’s interim emergency management director says it could take three to six months to fix the leaks and breaks completely.
