Burlington reaches agreement with Cambrian Rise to expand housing units

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A Burlington housing development Thursday received city approval to expand.

City officials have given the green light to raise the housing unit cap at Cambrian Rise from 950 units to 1,050. The development, which has been underway since 2018, is the city’s largest in history.

The new deal between developers and the city also promises new access to the bike path and transportation guidelines intended to prevent traffic.

Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger called the 10-year project with developer Eric Farrell one of the proudest achievements of his administration. “The fact that Eric has been able to build over 500 homes here, other developers will look to as like, yeah, you actually can get something done and you can successfully build housing in this city, and I hope people do see that,” he said.

Farrell says Cambrian Rise is slated to be finished in the next four to five years, with more than 250 homes coming on the market this year alone. The entire project should be able to house up to 1,800 with 20% of the units dedicated to affordable housing.
