Survey: Vermonters’ feelings on flood policy cut across party lines

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – A new survey shows Vermonters on all ends of the political spectrum are worried about flooding.

The Nature Conservancy of Vermont and several polling firms surveyed 450 Vermonters flagged as likely voters in November’s election. They found most Vermonters are worried about flooding and have felt its effects. Two-thirds say they want to limit new development in areas at high risk of flooding. Support came from all political parties.

Dave Metz helped conduct the survey and says it’s rare to see such bipartisan agreement. “I think it speaks to the unique nature of this issue, the fact that the threat that flooding poses pretty much cuts across those partisan lines,” he said.

The environmental group says the results give them a better sense of how Vermonters feel after last summer’s flooding and the policies they’re likely to support.
