1st Breeze Airways flight lands at Burlington airport

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – The Burlington airport welcomed its first passengers on Breeze Airways Wednesday.

Some 70 people flew into the Leahy Burlington International Airport on Breeze from Tampa Wednesday afternoon, and about 130 passengers were set to fly to Tampa from Vermont.

The airline offers nonstop flights to Tampa, and in about two weeks, flights to Orlando will take off.

The Burlington airport has been working to get the airline up and running for about a year now.

Passengers say the ability to jet somewhere warmer and sunnier is a welcome addition to the airport.

“I am excited that it is a one-way, like straight shot because my mom lives in Tampa. So, whenever I want to go see her, it’s always two flights. One flight is a lot better. So, I have traveled through Newark. I am just glad I don’t have to idle in different airports,” said Tyler Swenson of Hyde Park.

Breeze announced Tuesday that more routes are on the way, with seasonal nonstop service to Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, and one-stop service to Jacksonville, Florida. The airline says those will start in May.
