Group of out-of-bounds skiers included Killington employee, 6 juveniles

KILLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Officials at Killington Ski Resort say a group of 21 skiers and snowboarders rescued from the backcountry last weekend included an employee who was later fired.

It happened around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. According to the Killington Police Department, team members hiked and snowshoed approximately five miles in frigid temperatures to assist in evaluating and bringing those lost back to safety. They say the group included six juveniles.

As teams were ready to clear, another call came in for two more skiers who were lost in the backcountry. Several rescue crews returned to the woods to bring them out safely, around 7:30 p.m.

The resort said in a statement that several groups of skiers and riders went under a rope and out of the resort’s boundary, in violation of their policy. Officials haven’t said if they plan to pull any lift passes.
