ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (WCAX) – A donation by a local resident will allow workers at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital to further their education.
Community member Chick Allen donated $250,000 in honor of his late wife, Barbara Norris Allen, who died in December.
The St. Johnbury hospital’s Employee Career Advancement Program.helps connect employees with a school of their choice and find them scholarships and money to pay for schooling.
NVRH CEO Shawn Tester says donations like this help address the current nursing shortage. “You can see the synergy here, and really appreciate that people understand the need and want to support to give people the career opportunities they deserve. Our goal here is to graduate nursing professionals who will continue to have a long career at the hospital,” he said.
He says they already have seven employees enrolled in the program since it started last fall.
