Are Vermonters overpaying for health care?

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Are Vermont taxpayers spending $38 million a year to improve primary care for no reason?

That’s what state auditor Doug Hoffer is unsure of in his new report on the state’s blueprint for its health program.

The program initially started to bring primary care practices up to a nationally recognized standard of care 20 years ago, but as the new audit suggests, there’s no proof that the program is improving our community’s health or bringing down costs.

The main problem the audit found was an absence of reliable data to assess the program.
