Venezuelan man arrested in Vermont after previous deportation

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A Venezuelan man previously removed from the U.S. was arrested in Vermont on Monday after a high-speed chase.

Authorities say Homeland Security officers tried to arrest Jorge Humberto Moreno Martinez, 34, in a Williston parking lot on Monday. The feds say he led them on a chase down Williston Road at speeds exceeding 100 mph, and that three law enforcement vehicles were hit in the process.

They say Moreno Martinez then ditched the car and ran away, but they eventually arrested him.

The feds say he also tossed drugs from the car.

Moreno Martinez is now being held in federal prison. He’s charged with being in the U.S. illegally after having been previously removed by immigration officials.

They say he was removed from the U.S. in 2016 after serving three years in prison in New York for burglary. He was prohibited from entering or attempting to enter the United States.
