Is Vermont doing enough to help people quit tobacco?

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont gets a failing grade when it comes to some areas of tobacco use prevention.

The State of Tobacco Control Report from the American Lung Association looks at state and federal efforts to end tobacco use.

Two areas got an F, including funding for tobacco prevention programs and ending the sale of flavored tobacco products.

Those are a stark contrast from the other three areas – the strength of smoke-free workplace laws, tobacco taxes, and access to quitting services – which all got an A.

While advocates are urging lawmakers to take steps to better those scores, Vermont did score higher than the national average in most categories.
