Vt. attorney general releases annual domestic violence report

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – The Vermont Attorney General’s Office on Wednesday released its annual report detailing deaths attributed to domestic violence.

The latest Domestic Violence Fatality Report shows seven out of the 29 homicides in 2023 were related to domestic violence.

The report also includes recommendations to the Legislature. They include addressing access to firearms; adding two victims’ services positions for every local law enforcement team; imposing accountability programming for offenders; and expanding the use of a tool used to identify victims at the highest risk of death or serious injury.

“Our work must continue until our homes and our relationships are free from domestic violence, and together we can make great progress on this issue,” said Vt. Attorney General Charity Clark.
