Vt. Republicans attend inauguration watch party in Milton

MILTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont Republicans gathered in Milton Monday to celebrate President Trump’s inauguration.

From the outside to indoors, the Eagles Club in Milton was filled with people excited to celebrate the president’s big day.

“There’s a lot of unity in this room,” said Chittenden County Republican Party Chair Janet Metz. She says the GOP invited folks from all over the state for Monday’s watch party.

“This is just an exciting day to be together with other Republicans,” said Marie Tiemann of Essex

Metz says they set up the luncheon after the announcement that the Capitol ceremony was moved indoors, preventing people from watching in person in Washington. “We decided to bring everyone together to celebrate together the president’s inauguration,” she said.

Trump supporters like Maryann Lynch of Milton say they are hopeful for the next four years. “The happiness and joy is really indescribable really,” she said.

“It’s very positive, very energetic, very hopeful,” Tiemann said.

Everybody is looking forward to the future,” said Representative Mike Tagliavia, R-Corinth. And as the crowd cheered the official swearing-in, Tagliavia said he hoped Trump would bring the country together. “I think we will be able to get unity.”

“Please give us a chance. We have been shut down for the last four years. There’s been a lot of censoring, we have been afraid to speak. I think it’s time to allow us to speak and listen to us,” Tiemann said.

“Everybody has had some faults but Trump has tremendous capabilities and tremendous things to do, and I wish him well and I hope he can accomplish what he set out to do,” said Norman Boyden of Williston
