St. Michael’s College launches new free tuition program

COLCHESTER, Vt. (WCAX) – St. Michael’s College in Colchester is making a pitch to students that college could be cheaper next year.

Starting this coming fall, current and incoming students whose families make less than $100,000 a year will be eligible for free tuition.

The college says many students got this sort of help before but many incoming students didn’t know about it.

That’s why they wanted to launch the official program, St. Mike’s Community Commitment.

“Getting the word out there, not only to the students who are thinking about St. Mike’s but to students who would never consider St. Mike’s but who would love it here, that this is a viable opportunity, that this is a viable option for them,” said Brigid Lawler of St. Michael’s College.

It’s also a way for St. Mike’s to compete with other colleges that are all vying for a shrinking pool of students.

St. Mike’s says the college is feeling the pressure of getting the same number of students coming in as they did before COVID and they hope this program will help close that gap.
