Suspect in violent Burlington assault, robbery released

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A Vermont man accused of a violent assault and robbery in downtown Burlington that left another person unconscious has been released.

Police say Abdirahman Mohammed, 22, was one of the primary aggressors in a group attack on Main Street back in April.

Court records show the 24-year-old victim and his girlfriend were assaulted and robbed, losing items valued at a combined $2,000.

Police say Mohammed punched or kicked the victim 22 times while he was on the ground.

Mohammed pleaded not guilty to multiple assault charges stemming from the attack in April and another incident in October which involved the same victim.

He’s now in the custody of his mother with strict conditions, including staying with her at all times and not engaging in violent behavior.
