SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Don’t let your holiday celebration go up in smoke. Fire officials want you to stay safe from fires over the holidays and they have some advice.
The South Burlington Fire Department recommends being extra aware of what’s in your house.
They say to make sure to water your Christmas tree, don’t overload your electrical system, know where your animals and kids are during busy times– especially around the kitchen, and keep your stove clean.
But they say at the end of the day, don’t forget to slow down and reflect on the good!
“Take a breath, slow down, remember to take care of yourself. This is a big mental health time for us. We are seeing a lot more people with mental health issues because holidays are stressful,” South Burlington Deputy Fire Chief Terry Francis said.
Francis adds they are seeing an increase in issues on the roads and they want to remind people to slow down when driving, as well.
