Families enjoy Christmas Eve snowfall at Milton park

MILTON, Vt. (WCAX) – It’s a triumph on the trails in Milton after one tubing spot got the most snow it’s had in two years right before Christmas.

Many families hit the hills at Sharp Park on Tuesday, taking advantage of the freshly packed powder to kick off Christmas festivities.

“Just a few days ago we thought it was going to be a green/brown Christmas, so we’re so excited that there’s going to be snow and sledding, so we’ll be outside building snowmen later,” said Emily Belarmino of South Burlington.

For Texan Louise Thompson, it was her first time tubing.

“It’s cold!” she laughed.

Despite the frigid temperatures, Thompson said she enjoyed every minute.

“I got a fist full and a face full of snow, and it was perfect. It was exactly what I wanted to experience,” she said.

She cherished Vermont’s idyllic scenery.

“I was telling everybody that I’ve seen Christmas cards like this my whole life, and I was like, ‘Ah, it doesn’t really look like that.’ And then I’m pausing and being like, ‘It does really look like that,’” she said.

Owner Rick Sharp said this is the most snow the trails have seen in two years.

“We’re very happy today. So, if we get it on the week that the kids are out of school is great because that means we’ll get a lot of people up here, a lot of smiling faces,” Sharp said.

He hopes it’s a sign for the winter ahead.

“Snow and cold weather rather than rain,” he said.

Weather-dependent, the hills will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. throughout the rest of the season.
