WASHINGTON (WCAX) – Members of Vermont’s congressional delegation say they’re deeply concerned about Elon Musk’s role in scuttling a bipartisan deal to keep the government open.
Congress was on the verge of passing the latest in a string of continuing resolutions to keep the government funded through March when the billionaire early Thursday took to his social media platform urging lawmakers to reject the measure. President-elect Donald Trump soon followed suit.
Senator Bernie Sanders, in a post on X, took a dig at Musk — and Trump — over the billionaire’s outsized influence.
Democrats and Republicans spent months negotiating a bipartisan agreement to fund our government.
The richest man on Earth, President Elon Musk, doesn’t like it.
Will Republicans kiss the ring?
Billionaires must not be allowed to run our government.

Congresswoman Becca Balint says she’s concerned that an un-elected official is calling the shots over the speaker of the house and the incoming president.
“Unelected billionaires who only care about one thing — which is their own money — should not be making decisions for those of us who have been elected to represent all of you,” she said.
Congress has until Friday night to pass a spending plan or the government shuts down.
