ALBANY, N.Y. (WCAX) – New York Governor Kathy Hochul is among politicians calling for an end to the Electoral College system.
Hochul joined 28 of New York’s electors on Tuesday to officially certify the Empire State’s vote for Kamala Harris. She also said it’s time to ditch the Electoral College and go with the popular vote in presidential elections.
“It’s time to amend the constitution and relegate the institution of the Electoral College to the history books,” Hochul said. “As governor of the Empire State and president of this Electoral College, I’m ready to do my part,” she said.
She called the system a “convoluted process” that forces presidential candidates to spend too much time campaigning in swing states rather than appealing to voters as a whole.
