STOWE, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont Sen. Peter Welch says he’s concerned some Trump cabinet picks may go after their political foes.
During a stop Monday in Stowe, Welch specifically mentioned Kash Patel, who President-elect Donald Trump tapped to lead the FBI, and Pam Bondi, Trump’s second nominee for attorney general.
Welch says he wants to see a commitment from them during the confirmation process to remain neutral.
“The bottom line is that President Trump state that he has no intention of prosecuting opponents of his or that they won’t prosecute journalists because he wrote bad stories about him,” said Welch, D-Vermont.
Over the weekend, Sen. Bernie Sanders said President Biden should consider preemptive pardons for members of the January 6th Committee, but Welch dismissed the idea.
