MENDON, Vt. (WCAX) – Snowmobiling begins Monday in the Green Mountain National Forest, but officials with the U.S. Forest Service urge people to be cautious.
They say windfall woes could create some hiccups. The forest service and snowmobile clubs in Vermont have worked to clear trees and debris from trails.
However, officials say weak trees can come down from heavy snow, meaning more hazards are common in the early season.
They remind snowmobilers to take it slow and heed gates, signs and closed trails.
Weather permitting, snowmobile use is allowed on designated trails in the Green Mountain National Forest for four months, Dec. 16-April 15.
Trail users are encouraged to visit the VAST trail update for specifics on trail conditions and closures.
