Starting Over Strong Vermont flood recovery initiative extended

WATERBURY, Vt. (WCAX) – The state will extend mental health and community outreach services for flood victims in Vermont.

The Vermont Department of Mental Health on Tuesday announced the continuation of its Starting Over Strong Vermont program.

The program provides mental health, community outreach and flood recovery services to Vermonters affected by 2024 flooding events.

State officials say Starting Over Strong has helped 14,000 participants since it launched in 2023. It was originally set to end in October but has now been extended through July 2025.

The program now offers a phone line that connects Vermonters in Chittenden, Washington, Addison, Lamoille, Essex, Caledonia and Orleans counties to mental health and flood recovery services in their communities. People can call 802-651-1767 (802-651-1SOS), Monday through Friday, during regular business hours.
