New fund helps Vt. cancer patients cover home heating bills

WILLISTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Cold weather is here and home heating bills are rising, but some Vermonters battling cancer won’t have to worry about choosing between paying the heating bill or medical bills.

The Cancer Patient Support Foundation partnered with Bourne’s Energy to create the Bourne’s Energy Home Heating Fund.

Cancer patients requesting assistance with their heating bills can get those bills paid for through the fund.

“We’ve heard many times that the financial is more worrisome, more of a burden than the actual cancer diagnosis or treatment,” said Sarah Wallace-Brodeur, the executive director of the Cancer Patient Support Foundation.

“We wanted to help remove that financial burden when it comes to heating their homes all winter,” said April Merrill of Bourne’s Energy.

Patients do not need to be customers of Bourne’s Energy to receive support from this special fund. Click here for information or you can ask your medical provider if you’re eligible.
