Nonprofits look to Vermonters to open hearts, wallets this Giving Tuesday

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Nonprofits are hoping Vermonters will open up their hearts and wallets on this Giving Tuesday.

The day aimed at focusing on donating to charities and nonprofits follows big spending days like Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

The goal is to think about people and community instead of materialistic things.

One local nonprofit we talked with says giving shouldn’t be limited to today.

“We don’t stop shopping after Cyber Monday, we can’t stop giving after Giving Tuesday, and we can’t stop caring about our community just one day a year. It’s a year-round endeavor,” said Jesse Bridges of the United Way of Northwest Vermont.

The United Way says if you don’t have the means to give financially, volunteering your time is also a way to give. And they recommend thinking local with your donations.
