Dozens of Vermont Castings employees furloughed

RANDOLPH, Vt. (WCAX) – Dozens of employees at Vermont Castings have been furloughed because of slowing business.

The stove and fireplace company says fewer orders than anticipated have led to a high level of inventory, so they’re temporarily halting stove production.

The decision resulted in the temporary layoffs of nearly 80 employees at the Randolph and Bethel facilities starting Monday.

They say they expect to bring all the employees back once production resumes, which will likely be in a couple of months.

The company says employees will retain access to benefits during their unemployment.

About a dozen employees will keep working through the furlough to maintain the equipment.
