ESSEX JCT, Vt. (WCAX) – GlobalFoundries says it is set to receive a hefty check as part of planned upgrades from the CHIPS and Science Act.
The company says the $1.5 billion from the U.S. Department of Commerce will help expand and modernize the semiconductor producer’s facilities in Vermont and New York.
In Essex Junction, that will help them to produce the next-generation gallium nitride semiconductors used in cars, smart devices, data centers, and aerospace and defense.
Globalfoundries says the investments will create 1,000 direct manufacturing jobs and 9,000 construction jobs.
